For BESS projects

Battery storage. Skip the civils.

Helical piles under battery containers — no excavation, no formwork, no concrete. The civils sub drops off the Gantt. 1,200+ piles under 250 containers at Cleve Hill BESS.

Engineered for Nordic ground

A foundation that holds every freeze cycle.

Spring 2026 brought foundation failures on Nordic solar parks. BESS gets the same risk. We anchor the helix below the frost line in stable ground, sized to the actual soil under each container. Re-levelling 30-tonne containers mid-life is not a small invoice.

What's underneath

A few piles. No slab.

The helix plate sits below the frost line in bearing ground, sized to each container's mass and the actual soil on site. No excavation, no formwork, no curing. When the BESS is decommissioned, the pile pulls back out the way it went in.

Three execution risks

What BESS foundations usually get wrong.

BESS schedules are grid-date bound. Foundation slip kills commissioning revenue. Three patterns we see.

01

A civils package on the critical path

A concrete pad is its own sub: clearance, pour, cure. Each handoff is a week on the Gantt. Helical piles cut the sub out — crew on, crew off, container on.

02

Foundation moves, containers move

A 30-tonne container drags the bus-bar interface if the foundation creeps. Piles below the frost line don't drift.

03

Spec'd for solar, not for batteries

BESS loads aren't PV loads: heavier point loads, bigger corner uplift. A tracker-pile spec is wrong for a container.

What we deliver

Helical piles under battery containers, on your commissioning schedule.

01

Sized to your container

Pile capacity sized to actual corner loads. Compression, uplift, lateral — verified per case.

02

Made in Finland, EN 1090

3,500+ piles a week, in-house. Nordic steel, mill certificate to pile.

03

On the commissioning schedule

GPS rigs, up to seven on site in parallel. Cleve Hill: 1,200+ piles, 250 containers.

04

No excavation, no concrete

No formwork, rebar, pour or cure. Piles load the same day they're driven.

05

Container bracket

Pile-to-container bracket built to the OEM spec — co-engineered or to your drawing.

06

One contract

Test piling through to installed pile under one contract. No subs, no handoffs.

From tender to commissioning

Five stages, on schedule.

01

Tender review

Send layout, soil data, grid date. You get sizing and an indicative price for your bid.

02

Test piling if soil's unknown

Pull-out, compression and lateral tests on site before the fixed price. No assumptions in the bid.

Optional
03

Final design & offer

Pile sized per container, zone by zone where soil changes. Eurocode 7.

Site-specific
04

Manufacture & deliver

Production lined up with your install date. Batch-level traceability.

Cleve Hill BESS — battery container array, Kent UK
Kent · United Kingdom · 2025

Cleve Hill BESS

One of the UK's largest battery-storage facilities (150 MW / 300 MWh). 1,200+ piles supporting 250 heavy 20-foot containers — held a tight commissioning schedule.

Hallanvahti Solar Park — large-scale mobilisation on peat ground, Joroinen Finland
Joroinen · Finland · 2025–2026

Hallanvahti — mobilisation at scale

Finland's second-largest solar park: 71,000 piles, 200+ ha of peat, up to seven rigs on site simultaneously with ~30 installers on two shifts. The same mobilisation muscle goes onto BESS sites when commissioning dates are tight.

Before the first call

What BESS buyers usually ask first.

Four questions we hear from BESS developers and EPCs at bid stage. Bracket geometry and fixing patterns are case-by-case — covered on the first call under NDA.

Why helical piles for BESS instead of a concrete pad?

No excavation, formwork, pour or cure. The civils sub goes off the Gantt; piles load the same day they're driven. Weeks back to your commissioning date.

A concrete pad still wins on very small, very heavy footprints — we'll say so on the first call if that's you.

Can you mobilise on a tight commissioning schedule?

Yes. Up to seven rigs in parallel, with manufacturing running alongside. Test piling is built into the programme when soil's uncertain, otherwise straight to mobilisation. Cleve Hill: 1,200+ piles under 250 containers.

Do you handle the container-bracket interface?

Yes — co-engineered with the OEM or built to your spec. Brackets run on the same EN 1090 Exc2 line as the piles. One paper trail.

Can you do a mixed solar + BESS site?

Yes — that's our normal scope on co-located projects. Same crews, same kit, same contract. BESS piles are sized separately from PV (different loads), but mobilisation is shared.
